Attending the Commencement Ceremony

Commencement is a very important date for those graduates who graduate from the universities, which confer them Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor’s degrees. I was lucky to have an opportunity for attending the commencement of my son in the United States, who graduated as a MBA from the school of management in the college of Business of the university. MBA is his second master’s degree he gained in the United States.

Commencement was held in the auditorium of the university, which is a beautiful building by the river. Before the ceremony began, the auditorium was full of relatives and friends of the graduates from all over the U.S.A. and other countries. There was a mini orchestra in right front of the stage, which was formed only by four female players, of which one played the piano, another played the violin, the other played the violoncello and the fourth played the saxophone. There was a sign language translator standing on the stage, who would translate the speeches to the persons attending the ceremony who were disabled in hearing.

Commencement ceremony began at 10:00 a.m.. When the graduates went into the auditorium one following the other, the orchestra started to play a music named Song of Graduation. It was said to be very popular in European and American countries.

All MBA sat on the stage in six rows, wearing master’s degree clothing and caps in black, with yellow metal signs 06 on the tassels of their caps. It meant those MBA graduated in the year of 2006. All the graduates bought clothing and caps for themselves in the shop of the university, and kept them permanently.

Vice President of this university, Dean, associate Dean and faculties of the College of Business sat in two rows in the front of the stage. The commencement ceremony was presided over by Associate Dean. Firstly, he gave a welcoming speech and introductions, secondly, Dean gave an address. Thirdly, Vice President congratulated all MBA on their graduation,  lastly, each MBA was called to the front of the stage one by one according to alphabetical order of their family names. They shook hands with Vice President and Dean, then they took their diplomas from the hands of Associate Dean.

After the ceremony ended, parents, relatives and friends took pictures with the graduates in the hall of the auditorium. At 12:00 a lunch banquet was given to the graduates and their family members, which was in the best hotel in the city. Each graduate could take two persons with him or her.

During the banquet, classmates, friends of my son came to us and congratulated him frequently. “Congratulations” filled the air in the banquet hall. A special gift was given to each graduate when the banquet closed. It just was what my son wanted. It was an elegant big picture frame used for his diploma.

It was an unforgettable day for my son and me. We drove to another city miles away to have dinner for celebration. When we came back, I sent E-mail to my husband, my friends and my relatives to show them the pictures taken at the ceremony and described them the sight at that moment. I would like to share the happy moment with them immediately.
